It's Not About Me

After the first feeding of the 15-20 thousand; each of them stated:
Matthew 14:20: “They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.”
Mark 6:42-43: “They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish.”
Luke 9:17: “They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers!”
John 6:11-13: And they all ate as much as they wanted. After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.
Then, at the second feeding of 10 to 12 thousand Matthew and Mark mentioned:
Matthew 15:37: “They all ate as much as they wanted. Afterward, the disciples picked up seven large baskets of leftover food.”
Mark 8:8: “They ate as much as they wanted. Afterward, the disciples picked up seven large baskets of leftover food.”
John 6:26-31: “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.” They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?” Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
Exodus 16:3-4: “If only the Lord had killed us back in Egypt,” they moaned. “There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.” “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you...
James 1:17-18: “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”
John 1:1-5: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
Exodus 16:4-8: “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. On the sixth day they will gather food, and when they prepare it, there will be twice as much as usual.” So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, “By evening you will realize it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt. In the morning you will see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your complaints, which are against him, not against us. What have we done that you should complain about us?” Then Moses added, “The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for he has heard all your complaints against him. What have we done? Yes, your complaints are against the Lord, not against us.”
John 6:32-36: “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.”
Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me.”
Sometimes I think we get it confused. We start believing that the Christian life is about what Jesus has done for me. And while all of that’s 100% true… “It’s not about me!”
Jesus doesn't give the bread directly to the crowd, He gives it to the disciples, and then the disciples give it to the people. “Jesus is the source.”
“Jesus is the source. We are the servants.”
“Jesus doesn't need us to accomplish His mission.”
When you look around this room today...who isn't here? If we believe what we've been talking about for the last four weeks... “We can't just be satisfied that we're fed. We have to care about who's still hungry.”
“Jesus is still in the business of feeding hungry people.”
The large crowd that was following Jesus around asked him about how they could perform miracles like Jesus does and Jesus’ answer was so simple and so incredible. Jesus said to them in John 6:29: “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
